[Translators-l] Ready for early translation: Tech news summary #27

I want to give a big compliment for the Tech news summary initiative. It's
even useful to me, and I'm involved full time in Wikimedia tech.

I've just translated the tech news summary into Dutch. It took me about 40
minutes for the first version. That was including to minor edits to the
source page, and a reply to an immediate thanks about those fixes by odder
on my talk page. I think it's doable in half an hour when not distracted.

I'm also very impressed by the level of care that appears to be given to
the tagging by Guillaume. Using tvar where possible, no unnecessary
markup. I was outright exited to see that the VisualEditor documentation
was created on medwiki.org and can be translated. Very different from
previous experiences where English Wikipedia had great documentation and
other wikis had to go on a quest for it. Kudos again go to Guillaume -- I
hope you're doing knowledge transfer! (organise a hangout session? I'm
game!)

I'm so looking forward to us getting access to machine translation engines
of internet giants A, B and C, which will make it even easier to deliver
quick and accurate translations for many of our non-English speaking
communities. DISCLAIMER: Wikimedia is not yet in contact with internet
giants A, B and C about this, so if you are in [ABC], don't hesitate to
contact me and we can make it happen even sooner than I'm hoping for.

Stay tuned for more news on the translation features front. We're aiming
for creating an awesome tool for the translation of main namespace pages
of Wikipedias once we're done with deploying UniversalLanguageSelector on
the Wikimedia Language Engineering team.

Rock on!
