Please, do not use Notepad. I have used it with LocalSettings.php and it 
didn't work as Notepad inserts some invisible characters at the 
beginning of the file, thus breaking the php file. I don't know if this 
relates to Messages*.php files, but just to be on the safe side, use a 
different editor (jedit proved to be the best for me while I was on WinXP)
